The city of Albany recently restructured some of its departments into a new Neighborhood and Community Services Department. Elissa Kane, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the unit, spoke with Brea Barthel about the restructuring that brings three units (Building & Regulatory Compliance, Planning, and Community Development) together. She also explains how people in the new positions of “Neighborhood Specialists” will work in the community to identify and address issues. A new “Front Desk” at 200 Henry Johnson Boulevard will provide phone and in-person help, as well as help with navigating grants and services for city homeowners, landlords, and renters.
