Uptown Summer

Uptown Summer is a summer program for young people in North Troy, NY. Local youth gain skills and knowledge to create their own narratives through different modes of storytelling, amplifying their voices in their community. The youth investigate urban ecosystems as environmental stewards in our North Central neighborhood, sharing homegrown stories of hope and justice.

Initiated in 2011, Uptown Summer combines art, media and science with community engagement. Integrating Sanctuary Initiatives with Hudson Mohawk Magazine, NATURE Lab and in the Collard City Growers gardens and special projects, teens work side-by-side with community leaders and neighbors, media professionals and artists, scientists and historians, college professors and interns.
