Troy summer books & activities for kids

Carol Roberts, Young People’s Services librarian at Troy Public Library, recommends three books for June and previews summer activities. In the fantasy “Unseen Magic” (Lloyd-Jones, 2022), unhappy memories can be traded for happy ones, but with consequences. For Pride Month, consider the graphic novel “Other Boys” (Alexander, 2021), a coming-of-age and coming-out story, with a list of resources (including thetrevorproject.org, offering a 24/7 crisis hotline). Anyone who loves pets, wordplay, or beautiful illustrations will like the picture book “The Longest Letsgoboy” (Wilder, 2021), a final walk of a girl and her dog, told in the dog’s voice and language. Upcoming kids’ activities include a summer reading program to earn chances for raffle prizes, shows with puppets and marionettes, a balloon artist, birds of prey, reptiles, and more.
