NY Parole Reform Virtual Advocacy Day 2022

The People’s Campaign for Parole Justice is back at it and once again in calling on lawmakers in Albany to pass two bills. Advocates and supports of Fair & Timely Parole and the Elder Parole bills believe that, together, these bills will ensure that people in prison have real opportunities for parole.

Elder Parole (S.15A/A.3475A) would allow the State Board of Parole to conduct an evaluation for potential parole release to incarcerated older people who have already served 15 or more years.

Fair and Timely Parole (S.7514/A.4231A) would provide more meaningful parole reviews for incarcerated people who are already parole eligible.

In this segment you will hear excerpts of Jose Saldana and Jose Di Lenola from RAPP, April Baskin of the Erie County Legislature, Senator Brad Hoylman, Assembly Member Anna Kelles, and former NY State Parole Board Commissioner Carol Shapiro voicing their support for parole reform.

Elizabeth Press produced this piece from the Parole Reform Virtual Advocacy Day.
