Cessie Alphonso: Social Work and the Death Penalty

WOOC Host and Correspondent Lovonia Mallory sat down with Cecilia, aka Cessie Alphonso, at her home in Part 1 of a 2 Part discussion to talk about her pioneering work consulting on cases with defendants who have been charged with a capital defense. Since 1986 she has consulted on over 1,000 capital cases working with bilingual Spanish speaking people, in Cuba, Columbia, El Salvador, and Puerto Rico. In 1987 she wrote one of the first articles on the role of the social worker in death penalty cases. Her work is being archived at Harvard University.
