Brea Barthel

Brea Barthel has been tangentially involved with what later became The Sanctuary for Independent Media since first taking a class with Branda Miller in the early 1990s, while a grad student in communication at RPI. Her background includes stints in health service administration, technical writing, 25+ years teaching primarily communication courses at RPI and (for most of that time) the University of Albany, and a few months helping people set up new businesses, before retiring in 2020. Through the years she has helped the Sanctuary in various ways at various times. Her volunteer commitment greatly expanded in March 2021 after joining her first production meeting for Hudson Mohawk Magazine. She now co-hosts the radio program one day a week, and frequently produces segments focused primarily on literacy (through monthly interviews with librarians and independent booksellers) and profiles of nonprofit organizations. Search her name to see the full range of work. Brea loves welcoming new volunteer co-hosts. Come join us!
