Census Tract 404: Resources Not Found

Our arts and environmental campus is spread throughout Rensselaer County’s Census Tract 404. North Central Troy feels a world away from the reinvestment bubbling downtown and it seems apt that our census tract number is synonymous with the internet’s most common error: “404 Not Found.”

Still, we continue to invest in our North Central community. In 2018, activity at the Sanctuary has reached a fever pitch. WOOC’s Hudson Mohawk Magazine and the new Jazz Sanctuary show have the building buzzing with activity until well into the evening. This spring we launch a fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 in order to turn the last vacant building on our block into the permanent home for NATURE Lab, our urban environmental education project.

With your help, we are growing programming and infrastructure that will have concrete impact on our community. Let’s keep it up!

Jazz Sanctuary

Jazz Sanctuary, WOOC’s nightly jazz show, kicked off in January! You can tune in every weeknight for a curated experience covering the spectrum of creative expression in the world of jazz. And we’re still looking for more talented jazzhead DJs! Email [email protected] to learn more.

Jazz Sanctuary airs from 7-10 PM Monday through Friday on WOOC 105.3 FM (streaming live at MediaSanctuary.org)

LOW POWER TO THE PEOPLE UPDATE: Thank you!

The outpouring of support from this community helped us raise more than $30,000 to help build new progressive radio stations for the Capital Region. The Hudson Mohawk Radio Network is now live, test broadcasting on WOOA 106.9 FM Albany and WOOS 98.9 FM Schenectady. FCC licenses have been issued to our partner organizations–now we have time to collectively build this network.

Hudson Mohawk Magazine

The all-volunteer produced Hudson Mohawk Magazine has been airing every weeknight since September. In this short time we’ve already produced 500+ segments covering local news, local artists, and revealing local connections to issues of environmental justice, social justice, and freedom of expression.

This ambitious project could be even more successful with your help! Email us at [email protected] or come to one of our weekly editorial meetings (Mondays at 7:07 PM) to get started as a volunteer.

Listen to the Hudson Mohawk Magazine on WOOC 105.3 FM and MediaSanctuary.org live Monday through Friday from 6-7 PM, repeated at 7 AM and 9 AM the following weekday. Visit MediaSanctuary.org to subscribe to the podcast and explore the archive.

Become a Sustainer

“The Sanctuary is an amazing community of people and a manifestation of ideals put into creative practice. There are now places in Troy where it will cost you $10 to buy a single glass of beer. It is a no-brainer to make a place in our monthly budgets to support the Sanctuary. I do what I can to ensure that grassroots spaces like the Sanctuary and Troy Bike Rescue become evolving institutions of justice and solidarity as we continue to envision a better world and struggle against environmental destruction, white supremacy, media monopolization, and the homogenizing influences of pop culture. Join me! Become a Sanctuary Sustainer today!”
