“Contested Streets” & “Memorial Ride” Screenings, and “The Car-Free Lifestyle” Book Signing

September 28, 2006 @ 5:00 pm 9:00 pm EDT

Stefan Schaefer’s new film Contested Streets (2006) explores the rich diversity of New York City and life before the introduction of automobiles, and shows how New York can follow the example of other modern cities that have reclaimed their streets as vibrant public spaces. This film features new footage of reclaimed streets in London, Paris, and Copenhagen. It also includes reviews with New York savvy notables such as James Howard Kunstler, Mike Wallace, Bob Kiley, Majora Carter, Kathryn Wylde, Enrique Penalosa and many more. There will also be a screening of Memorial Ride, a new video short directed by Andrew Lynn. Gregory Rosenthal will also be a discussion and signing his new book The Car-Free Lifestyle.

Presented with the New York Bicycling Coalition.
