Collard City Growers and NATURE Lab ’16 Garden Workshop #3: Garden Building Garden Beds, Planting and Dividing Perennials

May 21, 2016 @ 3:00 pm 6:00 pm EDT

May is an exciting and busy month in the garden. For this workshop, we will be reshaping beds that need sprucing, planting a variety of seedlings, and dividing perennials and moving the self-seeded plants to more convenient locations.

Perennials are a great addition to the garden as they come back every year. At Collard City, we enjoy a bountiful harvest of perennials such as rhubarb, sorrel, lovage, walking onions, asparagus, horseradish and a variety of hardy herbs. Each spring, we look forward to the return of these generous plants as they are the first to shimmy to the earth’s surface. This year, we hope to expand our bounty, by dividing clumps of perennials and transplanting to otherwise empty areas. The overall goal is to build a landscape that is largely self-sustaining and productive. Come and help us green the food desert, one plant at a time!
