Times Union Report on Police Reform

In April 2021, all New York counties and municipalities with a police force were mandated by the state to adopt a police reform plan. The plans included ways to hold police accountable, such as forming civilian oversight boards; increasing diversity in hiring offices; addressing racial profiling; and ensuring police use the appropriate amount of force and report it accurately. The Attorney General was directed to investigate civilian deaths by police.
