Rank Choice Voting Albany Update

Advocates of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) now expect that the issue will go to voters in the 2027 election. RCV Albany has submitted petitions for a referendum for a RCV system using single unified voting, eliminating primaries in favor of placing all the qualified candidates on the November ballot. The elimination of primaries has received pushback however from the leaders of the Democratic and Working Families Party. A council member has submitted legislation to have RCV for both the primary and general elections. Dorian Solot, co-chair of RCV Albany, provides an update to Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
