Schenectady Good Cause Debate

At the Schenectady City Council meeting on July 14 a number of community members came to speak both for and against the passage of Good Cause rules for rentals in the city. Good Cause, which requires landlords to have a legitimate reason to evict a tenant, has been approved statewide leaving it up to individual communities to opt in. The Scehenectady council was only considering whether to move the issue on to a public hearing at this meeting. These are some excerpts from the public comments on both sides of the issue.
