Rally for Elderly Parole Justice

On Tuesday May 20 a rally by Parole Justice and Release Elderly People in Prison was held in the War Room of the state capitol to demand passage of Parole Justice legislation to promote transformation and healing, help build safe communities, and end permanent punishment. Speakers stated that we fight for these bills because they know they will promote growth and rehabilitation in prison and allow people who have transformed themselves to return to their families & communities, making everyone safer and allowing the state to reinvest the savings in real public safety. By passing Fair & Timely and Elder Parole, we reclaim our commitment to dignity, healing, and second chances. We hear initially from organizers Jerome Wright and Olivia Murphy, followed by Assemblymember Amanda Septimo; Senator Robert Jackson; and Stanley Jamel Bellamy. By Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
