Protestors Block Street Outside Capitol to Push NY For All

On Tuesday, June 10 , the New York Immigration Coalition elected officials, allies, and immigrant New Yorkers rallied at West Capitol Park in support of the New York For All Act. In the final days of the legislative session, immigrant communities across the state are sounding the alarm: without immediate action from Albany, families remain at risk of being torn apart through harmful collusion between local police and ICE, which the New York for All Act would prohibit. The rally came as President Trump has mobilized the National Guard and the Marines to suppress protests against ICE raids in Los Angeles that have been targeting workplaces. After the rally, several dozen people blockaded Washington Avenue in front of the entrance to the State Capitol. The City decided not to arrest the protestors and the blockade continued for several hours, causing major traffic backups in downtown Albany. We hear from a number of individuals who joined the blockade, including several representatives from the Columbia Sanctuary Movement, Rachel Kumpalich, John Mark Rosenthal of Climate Over profits, and Mickey Deforna of Rochester New Pride Agenda.
