Hochul Pushing to Expand Nuclear Power in NY

Despite the significant financial and environmental problems with nuclear power, Governor Hochul is making a major push to develop more of it in NY. Partly it is out of the desire to respond to the skyrocketing electrical demands of data centers, AI, the Micron chip fab plant in Syracuse, and cryptocurrency. Many call nuclear a false climate solution since it does have a carbon footprint related to the use of cement in construction and the footprint from the processing, mining and distribution of the fuel. Plus the enormous problem of radioactive waste and the very long time needed to build nuclear plants when global warming is already breaking through the target cap of 1.5 degree C. Anne Rabe of Don’t Waste NY talks with Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
