Dio Kaufman on Saratoga Spring’s Anti-Homeless Ordinance

On July 1st 2025, the government of Saratoga Springs passed an ordinance that made camping and the use of camping equipment on city property a fineable offense. However, community members and activists objected to this ordinance at the public hearing held on July 1st, saying that the vague wording essentially criminalizes homelessness in the city. Benno Greene spoke with Dio Kaufman, a tenant rights advocate and activist who was arrested at the public hearing during their comments, about the events of the public hearing, the effect this ordinance will have on the homeless population, and how this law could be used to target protesters in Saratoga.
