500 Rally at Capitol for Elder Parole

On Tuesday January 28, more than 500 advocates came to the State Capitol to join children with currently and formerly incarcerated loved ones to demand “Parole Justice for our futures”. Participants called for passage of the Fair & Timely Parole and Elder Parole bills to end permanent punishment, promote rehabilitation and healing, and help build safe communities. Many lawmakers spoke at the rally. We hear comments from Assembly Members Al Taylor and Latrice Walker; Chris Alexander, Executive Director of the NAACP-NYS Conference; Assembly Member Claire Valdez (Queens); Trinity Hemingway, 15, a violence prevention advocate with Guns Down, Life Up; Assemblymembers Brian Cunningham and Monique Chandler-Waterman (Brooklyn); and youth activist Marcus Collado.
