The Young Lords Envisioned a “People’s Hospital”

On July 14, 1970 the Young Lords took over Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx to demand better care, improved conditions, and a variety of patient and worker rights for the communities of color. The Young Lords demanded a “People’s Hospital,” and advocated for equitable healthcare. Their vision is one of the healthcare models that inspired People’s Health Sanctuary. Dr. Xavier Coughlin spoke about their influence with Sina Basila Hickey for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
