Witchy Romance Novels for Halloween

Hear about the somewhat new genre of “witchy” romance novels and related “witch heist” (or magic heist) books, as recommended by Laurie Dreyer, manager of the Lansingburgh branch of Troy Public Library. Also hear short reflections on how romance novels may provide new approaches to examining women’s power and roles in society, as well as family and “found family” relationships. Laurie also talks about the rise in interest in romance novels, even among men. Books discussed: “The Ex Hex: A Novel” (Sterling, aka Rachel Hawkins, 2021); “Payback’s a Witch” (Harper, 2021); “Witches of Moonshyne Manor” (Marais, 2022); “Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches” (Mandanna, 2022); “Mr. and Mrs. Witch” (Bond, 2023); “A Letter to Three Witches” (Bass, 2022); “Witch Please” (Aguirre, 2021); and “Witcha Gonna Do?” (Flynn, 2022).
