The RED Bookshelf

Hear how Batman, Nightwing, and many volunteers work through the nonprofit RED Bookshelf to encourage literacy and community service in youth throughout Albany. Programs include providing free books in locations such as City Hall, barber shops, and others. The program also runs a summer literacy camp, a “Superhero Academy,” and even a business literacy program. “Nightwing,” the Literacy Innovator, talks of how he connects reading with facets of everyday life to encourage kids to Read Every Day (RED) for at least 15 minutes. He and “Batman” (Paul Collins-Hackett, Executive Director) explain how volunteers can help by donating reading materials, cleaning donated items, and even joining them in portraying community Superheroes to the youth.
