Schuyler Tenants Organize for Better Conditions

Tenants in the 61-unit Schuyler Apartments in the South End of Albany have been battling with landlord Asaf Elkayam over issues in their apartments such as water spots on their ceiling, years without functioning heat, mold, and windows that can not be opened in hot summer weather– and they’re upset about recent rent increases. We talk with resident Jasmine Whittingham, who is working with United Tenants and others to form a tenants’ union. With Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
