Sandra Owén:nakon Deer-Standup on the Land-Back Effort in Schoharie

A community supported land-back effort is taking place on a strawberry farm in Schoharie County. Sandra Owén:nakon Deer-Standup, a Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) from Kahnawa:ke (By The Rapids), is spearheading the reeducation effort that will be a part of this effort. Sandra is a long time land defender and educator, and she spoke with Sina Basila Hickey about the connection to this land and environment, the importance of agency over one’s own education, and what to expect in the upcoming celebration of Indigenous knowledge and land rights.
