Accessible Nature Spaces in Rensselaer

Environmental educator and wheelchair user Sheree Cammer and Jeff Briggs, designer of Dorothy’s Equal Access Trail in Averill Park, spoke about the accessibility of natural spaces with Sal Rochelle for Hudson Mohawk Magazine. Here in Troy, the John B Staalsen Vanderheyden Preserve stretches along the Wyants Kill, managed by the Rensselaer Land Trust. Preserve Steward Joe Durkin led a guided tour of the preserve. He talked about the Land Trust’s future plans and challenges to equal access, such as the lack of an entrance with 36″ clearance as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
