Planning For Racial Justice Conference – David Lewis

The University at Albany will be virtually hosting seven sessions a five-day Planning for Racial Justice Conference, featuring seven sessions which “will engage diverse scholars in planning and cognate disciplines with professional planners and leaders from communities they cite as adversely effected by past planning decisions.”

One of the main organizers of the Conference, David Lewis, an Associate Professor and Program Director of Urban Studies and Planning at the University at Albany, spoke with HMM Correspondent and UAlbany student, Spencer Keable. David provided historical examples of racial justice issues in the City of Albany, described the origins of the Conference, and discussed how the field of Planning in the US evolved from a legacy of racism and is working towards a more equitable future.

The event runs from Tuesday, Feb. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 27. Registration for each session of the Zoom webinar format is open to all. To register, visit www.planningforracialjustice.com. Those who formally register for the Zoom webinar will have the opportunity to interact with the various conference panels and participate if a panelist has a breakout session or conducts polling.
