A moment of reflection and transition…

Dear Community,

As you know, the Sanctuary for Independent Media has been in a period of transition after the departure of our founding Executive Director, Steve Pierce, over a year ago. Under the leadership of our current Executive Director, Kristen KP Holler, we have spent the last year on significant projects including the Eco-Art Trail, a three part series on Gaza including a talk by Chris Hedges, and increasing outreach to community. In addition, we were building systems, programming for the future, and evaluating where we are and where we need to go next.

At the end of May 2024, Kristen KP Holler will be departing The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Thanks to her hard work and commitment, her tenure created a solid basis for the future of the Sanctuary, continuing to move this organization forward in this transition.

2025 marks 20 years of The Sanctuary for Independent Media! This time of transition allows us the opportunity to reflect on all that we have achieved and to reevaluate our path forward. Therefore, the board and staff have decided to take advantage of this milestone and hold off on hiring a new executive director.  As we pause, we will examine the goals of our organization, our mission, and relationships to our various communities and partners.

In the meantime, we are searching for an Interim Operations Manager to assist the staff and board in successful functioning. Our long-time Board member Dan Lyles has also assumed the responsibility of Board President.

We thank you all for your continued support of The Sanctuary for Independent Media including our initiatives at NATURE Lab, Collard City Growers, People’s Health Sanctuary, Sanctuary Radio, Freedom Square and more.

If you have any questions or concerns during this time, please reach out to [email protected].

Sincerely,

Dan Lyles,
