Sanctuary for Independent Media Announces New Concerts

Chris Pasin will celebrate the music of Ornette Coleman at the Sanctuary for Independent Media.

The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy has announced it fall season of events, including workshops, films, talks, book discussions and other celebrations.
Of course, there are also a globe-spanning array of musical concerts on the schedule.
Here’s the complete schedule of concerts for the fall 2018 season at the Sanctuary for Independent Media:
DELGRES
Wednesday, September 26, 7pm, $20
Delgrés is a deep roots trio that blends French Caribbean and New Orleans’ musical styles for an all-new sound. The trio is made up of guitarist and vocalist Pascal Danae, Sousaphonist Rafgeeand Baptiste Brondy on drums. Named for Officer Louis Delgrès, the band pays tribute to the forgotten hero, a biracial man who spent his life actively resisting colonial forces in Guadeloupe and died in battle fighting Napoleon’s enforced reinstatement of slavery in 1802.
LADAMA
Friday, October 12, 7pm, $20
LADAMA is a group of four women, virtuosic musicians, and educators – Lara Klaus, Daniela Serna, Mafer Bandola and Sara Lucas – each from a different country and culture of the Americas, who are sisters in song, rhythm and spirit. Harnessing music from their respective countries of origin – Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and the United States – the group utilizes traditional and non-traditional instruments from across the Americas, but with a modern twist, to produce Latin Alternative music.
CHRIS PASIN’S ORNETTIQUETTE
Saturday, November 10, 7pm, $20
Trumpeter Chris Pasin celebrates the music of Ornette Coleman and the release of his new Planet Arts album, Ornettiquette, with saxophonist Adam Siegel, bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Harvey Sorgen.
RAS MOSHE
Saturday, December 8, 7pm, $20
A multi-media performance of “Peace Be With You: Letters from Rap” with the Music Now! Unit. Saxophonist Theodore Burnett III (aka Ras Moshe) performs music based on letters written by his father during deployment in Vietnam from 1968-1970.
