Hudson Mohawk Magazine correspondents collectively profile candidates in the Capital Region running for election in November 2023. Each candidate gets a 10 minute profile. Our producers reach out to all candidates running for the same seat, although not all responded to our request for a candidate profile.

Troy Mayor

Nina Nichols

Nina Nichols is the Democrat/ Working Families Party candidate for Mayor in the City of Troy. She is a Rensselaer County Legislator and former Troy City Council member. She discusses solid waste, lead pipes, and public safety issues with Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

Carmella Montello

Carmella Mantello is the Republican/ Conservative candidate for the Mayor of Troy. She has been City Council President for the last eight years and previously served as Executive Director of the Hudson Valley Greenway and NYS Canal Corporation. Peggy Kownack

The Troy City Council District 1 race is between Bill Keal (R, C) and Peggy Kownack (D). Troy City Council District 2

Ryan Bronsan

In Troy City Council District 2, the candidates are Democrat Shikole Struber, an information security officer, and Republican Ryan Bronsan, a union electrician. Last year Ryan ran against City Council person Steven Figueroa in a special election to fill Kim Ashe-McPherson’s seat when she officially resigned after taking a plea deal in connection with her casting absentee ballots in two other people’s names in elections held in 2021.
