Iliona Khalili

Iliona Outram Khalili has been a pioneer of sustainable architecture for more than two decades and is an impassioned advocate of sustainable development, who stives to encourage students by passing on the fruits of years of research and practice, for she sees young people today as the builders of future sustainable communities. She has a seven year background at SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) as adjunct faculty in the Architectural Research Program (ARP). At Cal-Earth (California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture), Khalili was the project manager for research and development of “Superadobe” sandbag and barbed wire construction prototypes.Her “Sandbag Shelter Prototypes” won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Khalili is president of Ansari Sustainable Living LLC, which is dedicated to sustainable development and promoting young talent and provides international workshops and design consulting in earth architecture and eco-village design for sustainable living in Italy, Czechia, Tanzania, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the U.S. Iliona Khalili has helped out with the Sanctuary by designing charrettes and workshops in the Art of Sustainability and Survival, Constructing with the Earth workshop as well as created a pizza oven for use by the neighborhood!
