Ruderal Ecologies: Grounds for Change

A Symposium Entangling Art, Environmental Justice, and Urban Ecology

Ruderal Ecologies is hosted by NATURE LAB, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (including Vasudha Living and Learning Community, and the Department of Science and Technology Studies, Vollmer Fries Fund and Thomas Phelan Chair) the RADIX Ecological Center, and Skidmore College.

Ruderal Ecologies: Grounds for Change takes inspiration from “ruderal” plants, which can thrive in urban “wastelands” and blasted landscapes. Through ecology, arts, science technology studies, we will learn about organisms that have evolved to be resilient and adaptable, fermenting tools and collective strategies for strengthening our communities. This 3-day event weaves together environmental sustainability and social justice, showcasing feminist and indigenous perspectives.
