“Steal This Story, Please!” Film Screening + Discussion
November 5, 2026 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EST
In Steal This Story, Please!, we watch as independent journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! stands up against powerful entities such as politicians, military powers, and corporations. Join us for a film screening of this documentary film, followed by a critical conversation– where anyone can contribute to the open dialogue– about the power of the media, questioning power, and how we can resist with a microphone.
This event is co-sponsored by iEar Presents!
Taking on politicians, CEOs and riot police, Amy Goodman has reported some of the most urgent and underreported
stories of our time. Steal This Story, Please! is a gripping account of the trailblazing journalist whose unwavering
commitment to truth-telling spans three decades of turbulent history. Drawing on an extraordinary archive, Academy
Award-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin ( Trouble the Water, Citizen Koch, The Janes ) take us behind the
scenes with the warm, wisecracking granddaughter of an Orthodox rabbi — raised in a tradition of asking hard questions
— as she navigates a media landscape reshaped by technology, corporate consolidation, and political assaults on the
press. Urgent, provocative and unexpectedly funny, Steal This Story, Please! is both a powerful critique of mainstream
media, and a celebration of those who challenge it.
Critical conversations are open dialogues where anyone can contribute to the ideas around a specific topic. After the screening of the film, the audience will rearrange our chairs so that we can discuss the themes of the film and how we can utilize the power of media for our own act of resistence.
