Beyond the Brink and Back: AfD

Democracy appears to many people to be in trouble not just in the US but around the world. At a recent salon gathering Opinion writer Jay Jochnowitz and Rosemary Armao, host of the podcast Beyond the Brink and Fighting Back talked with their audience about what had them worried. They pointed to the unsettling rise of far right politicians and the ADF party in Germany and to America’s faltering relations under the Trump-Vance administration with old allies. The old order, they say, seems to be disintegrating and what that means for American power is unclear. In the past under such confusing and potentially dangerous times America seems to have always found a hero… a leader with vision and courage to move the country forward. Do we see anyone like that now?
