Summer Short 08-20-25 (1)

There have been developments this week in the gerrymandering war that Republicans recently launched at the behest of the White House. First, California Gov. Gavin Newsom took the bait and told Texas that two can play this game of early redistricting. If Texas can whip up five new Republican districts, California can find five new Democratic districts. And then second, Texas Democrats who tried to delay the inevitable by hightailing it out of Austin so that majority Republicans could not act began returning home. How’s this all going to play out? Albany Times Union editorial writer Jay Jochnowitz posits in a big recent editorial that Dems should not try to out-compete in a dirty politics contest. Blue states — like California and New York cannot ignore their own citizens who want fair elections. On the Brink Podcast Host Rosemary Armao counters that the high road is for chumps and unilateral disarmament has never worked. Listen to this excerpt from their recent debate on the topic.
