Troy’s Proposed Pay As You Throw Solid Waste Plan

Troy’s proposed 2021 city budget would institute a Pay As You Throw (PAYT) plan for dealing with the city’s solid waste disposal. Proponents cite the environmental impact that incentivizing more recycling and composting could have, and controlling costs that are likely to go up in the coming year to maintain the current level of trash and recycling services available in the city. HMM correspondent Corinne Carey spoke with Troy City Council member Anasha Cummings about the plan and its roll-out by the administration. Members of the public can be heard on the proposal at a public forum the city council will hold on the 2021 budget proposal on Thursday, November 19. Listeners can visit TroyNY [DOT] gov and register to speak at the meeting under the Troy City Council section of the website. The Council is set to vote on the final budget proposal on Tuesday, November 24.
