Rensselaer Resource Recovery LLC joins public hearing on permits for BioHiTech Landfill

Earlier this year, the NYS DEC denied two major permits to Rensselaer Resource Recovery LLC for a BioHiTech landfill in the City of Rensselaer. The project is described by the company as a “regenerating landfill” and has been proposed on a current hazardous waste landfill – the former BASF site on the Hudson River.

At a public hearing on October 6th, the company provided their overview of the project. The public hearing took comments on the DEC’s decision to deny the permits and the possibility of the DEC reapplying for permits. You’ll hear Rensselaer Resource Recovery LLC’s description of the project. Afterwards, you’ll hear comments from the DEC and legislators, including Assemblymember John McDonald and Albany County Legislator Sam Fein.

Of the twenty plus participants at the hearing, no one spoke in favor of DEC granting permits for the project. Written comments can be submitted through Friday, October 9th. Submit a comment by writing to [email protected]
