Michael LaPorte On Homelessness

Hudson Mohawk Magazine correspondent Cat Jones sat down with local artist Michael LaPorte to talk about his experiences as a homeless veteran. Cat is doing a series of interviews with people who are currently, or who have, experienced homelessness. Contrary to popular belief, anybody can wind up homeless, through no fault of their own. Stereotypes abound, and most people who haven’t been there assume there is a social safety net that would help them if they ever needed it. It can be a shocking wake-up to discover we are all, really, just one crisis away from the streets. This series endeavors to combat the stereotypes and humanize the people at the margins of usual awareness.
