Health Watch With Dr. Ingrid Allard

Lovonia Mallory interviews pediatrician and medical educator Dr. Allard. As an associate dean she heads the Division of Community Outreach and Medical Education (DivCOME). She directs pipeline programming and other support programs for diverse students together with the faculty and staff in DivCOME. In her position she helps recruit underrepresented students from diverse backgrounds and supports them when they matriculate at Albany Medical College. In addition, Dr. Allard guides the Service Learning curriculum at the College. She is also one of several advising deans. As an advising dean she mentors and advises medical students from all backgrounds through their academic journey.

In her work as an associate professor, Dr. Allard educates students and faculty in the areas of determinants of health, medical education, health care disparities and pediatrics. She has received several awards for her community work and was recognized as one of 15 of America’s Top African American Medical Educators by Black Health Magazine in 2014.

Dr. Allard graduated from Brown University in Providence, RI and earned her MD degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She received her master’s degree in medical education from the KECK School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. She has served on two New York State councils, the Early Childhood Advisory Council and the Minority Health Council. She is a co-investigator on a NIH National Cancer Institute Grant Standardized Patients to Assess Competency in Tobacco Cessation Counseling.
