On Tuesday, opening statements began in the nonjury trial of former Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove. Abelove is charged with a felony and misconduct in his handling of the case involving Troy police Sgt. Randall French’s after he killed Edson Thevenin. In a mostly empty courtroom, Edson Thevenin’s mother Gertha DePas sat front row with Damaris Miller of Troy 4 Black Lives. Hudson Mohawk Producer Elizabeth Press brings us reactions from Gertha Depas and Damaris Miller after they witnessed Tuesday’s proceedings. This segment starts with Gertha DePas.
