Siena Student Researches How Freedom Schools Can Be Applied To Modern Day Education

The Hudson Mohawk Magazine Roaming Labor Correspondent Willie Terry attended the Underground Railroad History Project, “LibertyCon 2019 Conference” Seeking Sanctuary: Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness at Siena College on March 29-31, 2019.

This is part two of a five-part segment where he recorded highlights from the conference. In this segment, you will hear his interview with Tom Ruhl, Senior Capstone Researcher, Siena College about his workshop on “Education for Liberation: Teaching in the Freedom School Model.” The Freedom Schools played a large part in the Civil Rights Movement by educating Black children for little cost.
