HMM Correspondent Aileen Javier interviews Dr. Laurie Nadel about her new book, The Five Gifts: Discovering Hope, Healing, and Strength When Disaster Strikes. Dr. Laurie Nadel is a psychotherapist expert in acute stress, trauma, and anxiety issues. She is considered a thought leader in the emerging field of acute stress and PTSD. On this interview, Dr. Laurie give a brief introduction of the Five Gifts, what motivated her to write this book and how these gifts can help us ease unexpected traumatic experiences. On this interview, Dr. Laurie discusses the importance of forgiveness and the relation of gratitude and guilt in traumatic experiences. How our digital society might be causing more vicarious trauma and what can we do about it. Also, Dr. Laurie discusses how social distancing does not stop human connection.
