Mayor Bill Keeler Statement on Norlite

Cohoes Mayor William Keeler addressed the Cohoes Common Council and the public on Tuesday, the same day he met with Norlite and Department of Environmental Conservation officials regarding the burning of toxic firefighting foam in Cohoes. During that meeting, Norlite confirmed they had been burning the PFAS-containing materials from 2018 until December 2019. Mayor Keeler has called for a moratorium on the burning of these materials and his office is in communication with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Congressperson Paul Tonko, Assemblyperson John McDonald, and Senators Kirsten Gilibrand and Chuck Schumer. After the meeting, Keeler spoke with Hudson Mohawk Magazine correspondent Alexis Goldsmith about his meeting with Norlite and the public housing complex that sits adjacent to the facility, Saratoga Sites.
