Calls for Moratorium on Tire Burning to Prevent Pollution from Lafarge Cement Plant

Local Law I, The Albany Clean Air Law, has been tabled until legislators can work out how the rule that bans tire and municipal waste burning will be enforced. In the meantime, residents of Albany County who are concerned about the Lafarge Cement Plant compromising air quality by burning tires are urging County Executive Daniel McCoy to enact a moratorium on tire burning. HMM’s Alexis speaks with Coeyman’s resident, Dr. Barbara Heinzen.
