Patient Medical Debt

Surprise medical bills and unpaid medical debt lawsuits have continued during the pandemic, causing surprise bills that can be significant and that disproportionately affect low income New Yorkers. The Patient Medical Debt Protection Act, a NYS bill, could change that by requiring transparency measures from care providers when it comes to billing. As well, the NY Health Act, a single payer state healthcare system, could alleviate medical debt issues as well. HMM’s Alexis Goldsmith speaks with Ari Dubow from NY Focus.
