Taina Asili y la Banda Rebelde

Taina Asili y la Banda Rebelde is an Afro-Latin-reggae-rock fusion band that inspires audiences to dance to the movement of rebellion. The Puerto Rican vocalist Taina Asili carries on the tradition of her ancestors, fusing past and present struggles into one soulful and defiant voice. She has collaborated with La Banda Rebelde, or The Rebel Band, which is a six piece ensemble that is based in Albany, NY. Taina Asili hails from Philadelphia, PA and Albany, NY, where she has worked as a musician, poet, educator, and community organizer for over 15 years. The band members include Gaetano Vaccaro on the guitar, Kiki Vassilakis on the drums, Tona Abernathy the back-up vocalist, Gabby Canzeri on the bass, and Saeed Abbas on the percussion. The group performed at the Sanctuary for the first Freedom Festival at Freedom Square, the outdoor performance stage.
