Rita Cao-Garcia

Rita Cao-Garcia is a member of the Sanctuary for Independent Media, working with students from the neighborhood. She has helped the community get involved in the mural and arts workshops that the Sanctuary has put together. Garcia is the leading artist and teacher of the School One Community Art Program (CAP) at School One, which enhances students’ learning experience with after school art projects. For the past 32 years, Garcia has worked at School 1 teaching Social Studies and art in a self-contained program to children with multiple disabilities. She has collaborated with Troy Alley Action and her students on amazing mural projects, which have enhanced the streets and community of Troy. Garcia graduated from Russell Sage College with a bachelors and masters in Special Education, and grew up in the neighborhood of the proposed projects. Rita Cao-Garcia’s efforts in the community collaboration with The Sanctuary for Independent Media are deeply appreciated!
