Laqueena Lajas

Laqueena Lajas was the Volunteer Organizer/Outreach Coordinator for The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Laqueena joined the Sanctuary in June of 2019 after graduating with her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University at Albany. A native of Troy, Laqueena grew up in the North Central neighborhood and understands the importance in providing opportunities for community engagement, participation, and ownership.
Laqueena’s goal is to build a structured Volunteer Program accessible to members of both the academic and homegrown communities. She has also served as the co-coordinator of Uptown Summer 2019, a participant on the Census 404 panel with Representative Tonko, host on the Hudson Mohawk Magazine radio show, and is currently the co-coordinator of the MEDIA Club with Troy Prep Charter High School.
