DEC Environmental Justice grant

DEC Environmental Justice grant is a grant that the Sanctuary for Independent Media acquired from the state of New York. The grant was awarded to only 34 organizations throughout the entire state in order to give extra attention to community environments. The funds are to be used for projects such as inventories of polluting facilities, air monitoring, urban tree planting, community gardens, and alternative energy projects. Governor Cuomo stated “The Environmental Justice Community Impact Grants are an important resource to low-income and disadvantaged communities facing pollution and other environmental burdens across the state.” Being awarded this Grant, as a media organization, is such an honor because we can use media to help evolve the community surrounding The Sanctuary.
