SUMMARY:“Steal This Story\, Please!” Film Screening + Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In Steal This Story\, Please!\, is a celebration of independent media. We watch as independent journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! stands up against powerful entities such as politicians\, military powers\, and corporations. Join us for a film screening of this documentary film\, followed by a critical conversation– where anyone can contribute to the open dialogue– about the power of the media\, questioning power\, and how we can resist with a microphone. This event is co-sponsored by iEar Presents! and Hudson Mohawk Magazine. \n\n\n\n\nClick Here to Register\n\n\n\n\nTaking on politicians\, CEOs and riot police\, Amy Goodman has reported some of the most urgent and underreportedstories of our time. Steal This Story\, Please! is a gripping account of the trailblazing journalist whose unwaveringcommitment to truth-telling spans three decades of turbulent history. Drawing on an extraordinary archive\, AcademyAward-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin ( Trouble the Water\, Citizen Koch\, The Janes ) take us behind thescenes with the warm\, wisecracking granddaughter of an Orthodox rabbi — raised in a tradition of asking hard questions— as she navigates a media landscape reshaped by technology\, corporate consolidation\, and political assaults on thepress. Urgent\, provocative and unexpectedly funny\, Steal This Story\, Please! is both a powerful critique of mainstreammedia\, and a celebration of those who challenge it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCritical conversations are open dialogues where anyone can contribute to the ideas around a specific topic. After the screening of the film\, the audience will rearrange our chairs so that we can discuss the themes of the film and how we can utilize the power of media for our own act of resistence. \n\n\n\nFeaturing the film’s producer Karen Ranucci\n\n\n\nKaren Ranucci (Producer) has been involved in the field of independent video and film production anddistribution for the past thirty-five years. She began working at Downtown Community TV Center in New York\, whereshe taught video production workshops to community groups and started its documentary distribution department. In1978\, Ranucci traveled to Vietnam with DCTV’s directors\, Jon Alpert and Keiko Tsuno to produce the PBS documentaryVIETNAM: PICKING UP THE PIECES. In 1979\, she co-directed EL DIALOGO\, a documentary about the Cuban exilecommunity in the United States and their relationship to Cuba. \n\n\n\nFor nearly a decade\, Ranucci freelanced as a reporter/producer/camera operator for NBC Nightly News and Today Show\,traveling to many regions of the world. In 1985\, Ranucci won an Emmy Award for Best Investigative Reporting for aseries she developed about the poisoning of workers in the tungsten carbide industry. In 1988\, Ranucci founded the Latin American Video Archives\, a non-profit organization which facilitated the distributionof Latin American-made film and video to the educational market in the U.S.In the days following September 11\, 2001\, Ranucci joined the Democracy Now! team to transform the daily radio newsprogram into a simultaneous television and internet broadcast. \n\n\n\nSponsors:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial thanks to iEAR Presents through RPI’s ARTS department\, and the School of Humanities\, Arts and Social Sciences and the New York State Council on the Arts by approval of the New York State legislature and the Governor.

SUMMARY:Water Justice and Media Lab End of Season Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Our end-of-season Water Justice Lab celebration will feature films on local ecology and environmental issues\, including the premier of a short video created by Media Lab fellows. Water Justice Lab (WJL) is a collaborative program between Riverkeeper and NATURE Lab. This year youth fellows were joined by a youth media team\, made possible by a successful spring ‘26 fundraiser. Alongside this youth-produced film we’ll share other short films on local ecology and environmental issues\, including The Nature of Nature: Biodiversity in the Hudson Valley\, a 2025 film featuring local organizations like the Hudson Taconic Land Trust and Outdoor Promise. The films will be followed by a panel discussion with local environmental advocates and researchers. This event will be preceded by an open house at NATURE Lab. \n\n\n\n\nClick Here to Register
