"StoryHarvest 2013" w/ Don Byron New Gospel Quintet, Nawal, local music stars and a free community potluck and BBQ

Join us for the third annual celebration of StoryHarvest, and celebrate a growing community network dedicated to sustainability!

Don’t miss musical performances by American clarinetist and composer Don Byron, joined by local music stars, and Nawal, “mystic pop diva” from the Comoros Islands!

SCHEDULE (all activities are at Freedom Square)

1pm MUSIC: Don Byron performs with local musical artists in a community gospel set, including KMJ (Jerry Ford), America Ray, Arthur Danzy, Church of God Ebenezer, and Laymen of Troy.

2:00 Stone Soup, by Jon Muth, reading by Susan Fowler of The Friendship Garden

2:30 MUSIC: Pop diva Nawal performs “Indo-Arabian-Persian/ Bantu rhythms with Sufi trance”

3:00 Veggie Mobile @ Freedom Square

5:30 End of event — volunteers welcome to help clean up!

Throughout the afternoon:

  • Pastor Willie’s Missing Link Barbeque
  • “Hope Tree” art activity!, with Susan Fowler and with  Ndeysohna Jobe of The Friendship Garden. Children will be invited to write about their hopes for their neighborhood, as we decorate “the Tree of Hope” in Freedom Square.
  • Food sculpture by Jillian Hirsch

WHAT IS STORY HARVEST?  Join us in a journey of conscious, inspirational and spiritual music, and food – including a community potluck with a harvest soup and barbeque.

 StoryHarvest 2013 celebrates a year of public art installations, performances, and workshops of the Sanctuary’s “Found Art in North Troy” project, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” program and a legal settlement with the City of Troy.

     

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, spoons and stories!

 KITCHEN SANCTUARY Cooking will be happening in the kitchen as donations come in through the day, at least 5 experienced people will help with the set up of StoryHarvest from 9am to 1pm.  Volunteers will also be appreciated cleaning up immediately after StoryHarvest!

Starting downtown, the Collar City PreRamble will end up at Freedom Square to Celebrate StoryHarvest. Collar City PreRamble is an all-access path through and around Troy! The group will travel by foot, bike, skates, wheelchair, or whatever non-motorized vehicles your heart desires! You are encouraged to wear costumes and/or decorate your choice of transportation. Prizes will be given away!
