Lead in the Soil? A Community Investigation

June 3, 2023 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm EDT

We are investigating lead in North Central Troy, NY! Come to this public meeting to learn how YOU can be a citizen scientist, using easy DIY kits to test soil for lead contamination.

At this hands-on, participatory event, you will:

  • Learn why we’re taking action on soil lead
  • Make a map together of places where we interact with soil (playgrounds, gardens, empty lots, etc.)
  • Find out what you can do about contaminated soil – with a special presentation from the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center
  • Learn how to collect and prepare soil samples for testing
  • Sign up for a FREE soil testing workshop that will take place on June 17

This special event is a joint project of NATURE Lab and the Our Soil team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (https://oursoil.wp.rpi.edu/).

The event on June 3 is free and open to the public. However, limited space is available for the free soil testing workshop on June 17. If you want to secure your spot, register here: https://oursoil.wp.rpi.edu/join/
