Getting Grounded: Transplanting Party with Collard City Growers

June 8, 2019 @ 3:00 pm 5:00 pm EDT

A candid-shot of two volunteers working on the ground with shovels, preparing to transplant various plants and vegetables.

Learn how to plant seedlings and divide perennials in hopes to spread the bounty across Freedom Square  and Collard City Growers gardens at the Freedom Festival!

Collard City Growers is a volunteer-run food justice project where we connect arts and culture to growing a wealth of annuals and perennials including vegetables, medicinal herbs, natural dye plants, grains, and fruit trees. We share our homegrown harvest at neighborhood events that host hundreds of community members and passersby who come in search of nutrient dense food or “the best lettuce [they’ve] ever tasted.” During off-season, we share our harvest in the form of preserved greens, sauerkraut, pickles, and hot sauce.

We are committed to lowering the barriers to access for events at The Sanctuary for Independent Media. For people who are hard of hearing or deaf, blind or low-vision, or whose physical limitations can interfere with a satisfying experience, let us know two weeks in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.
